Resuming the collection of medical tests

Throughout COVID-19, Sun Life’s top priority has been the health and wellbeing of our Clients, advisors and paramedical examiners, which is why we temporarily suspended paramedical services. As a result, we implemented several changes to support our Clients during this unprecedented time.

As provinces begin to open up and non-emergency testing starts to slowly resume at a limited capacity, we are working closely with our service providers Dynacare and ExamOne to ensure steps are in place to help protect the health and safety of Canadians. This includes requirements such as enhanced cleaning protocols, self-assessments of the provider, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and physical distancing measures for non-treatment interactions.

What this means for your applications in progress

Working closely with these providers, Sun Life will manage the ordering of requirements. As we continue to leverage our temporary measures, we will prioritize orders for Clients who are located in the cities with fixed facilities or those who have applications we cannot process without medical tests.

Other options for collection

For cases unable to be processed using our temporary measures, or if a Dynacare fixed facility is not an option, we will work closely with ExamOne as they finalize their processes for in-home collection.

In addition, for advisors who believe their clients have access to labs collections at their personal doctor’s offices or private/executive clinics, please reach out directly to your Underwriter to discuss the specific situation, and we can coordinate with the Paramedical providers to see if a solution can be worked out.
